How Does the Explosion Venting System Work?
Building explosion venting system is a protective system constructed through preset pressure relief paths, using special lightweight materials and intelligent control technology. When an explosion occurs inside a building due to gas leakage, chemical reaction out of control, etc., the system can respond and open the pressure relief channel in a very short time, quickly releasing the peak pressure generated by the explosion. This reduces the pressure on the building's load-bearing structure to a safe threshold and prevents the collapse of the main structure.
The explosion venting system includes key components such as venting bolts, venting washers, venting windows/walls, and tether cables. They can automatically open when a specific pressure is reached, quickly releasing internal pressure to achieve venting.
The venting system is designed to meet specific explosion venting values. Windows/walls are usually at 20-40 PSF (0.96-1.92 kPa), and roofs are at 60-80 PSF (2.88-3.84 kPa). The system also needs to pass 'three-property' testing: wind pressure resistance, water tightness, and air tightness tests.
The design of the explosion venting system follows relevant standards, such as FM 1-44 or NFPA 68, considering both structural safety and economy. It aims to release pressure at the minimum explosion pressure while avoiding impact on populated areas and major traffic routes.
Explosion venting systems are widely used in industrial and commercial buildings with explosion risks, such as chemical, petroleum, pharmaceutical, and food processing industries. Specific applications include: chemical storage, combustible gas rooms, toxic reagent rooms, boiler rooms, and gas fire extinguishing pressure relief outlets.
